Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors
January 30, 2020
For all seniors, graduation is coming around the corner quickly as most students are awaiting college acceptances and planning ahead for their future. Now is a good time to be searching for additional scholarship opportunities, specifically local scholarships that offer funding for a student’s future education endeavors. One of the largest opportunities offered locally in South Windsor, is Dollars for Scholars.
This program is focused around providing scholarship money for students that are planning on receiving a secondary education, and reside in South Windsor. This program is sponsored through the Scholarship of America, and is a fund that chooses to offer up to $75,000 in scholarship money for SWHS students. You can apply through the user-friendly online system, and the link provided with additional instructions regarding how to apply, are located on the South Windsor High School web page, under the student section.
It is important for students to note, that the deadline for the Dollars for Scholars application is March 15, 2020. That means that not only the online portion, but also the transcript request forms that need to be completed through the guidance office, needs to be handed in allowing ten school days for processing. If there are any additional questions regarding the completion of this application, students are encouraged to stop by the guidance office, or career center where Mrs. Carty is able to help students with the specific application with no reservation required.
In addition to the Dollars for Scholars, there are plenty of other scholarship opportunities that are available to students here at the highschool. Located on Naviance, there is a scholarship match program, that asks a few basic questions based off of the data you enter on your resume under the program. Through the matching software, hundreds of scholarships that you are eligible for pop up, and include prompting on how to apply.
Additional scholarship opportunities are available through the Hartford Foundation of Giving. Located on their web page, is a version of a common application that can be used during the application process, that mimics that of a common app application. By filling out one application answering questions about yourself, the program then applies you to all the scholarships you are qualified for. This can be an extremely easy way for students to get a head start on some excellent college scholarship opportunities.
