The New Season of Game of Thrones is Coming
March 29, 2019
Fans are raging about the 8th season of Game of Thrones set to air on April 14th, 2019. Because it is the last season, people are especially excited to see what happens to their beloved main characters. Will Jon Snow become king of the realm? Will the living overcome the army of merciless white walkers? How will Cersei’s reign possibly come to an end? These are all questions that viewers are dying to, and have been dying to know, for forever. It all goes down for the last time in 2019, the show first airing on HBO on April 17th, 2011, 8 years ago.
Over the course of the last seven season, we have seen some of the most popular and admirable characters come and go, most of the time as a result of murder. George R.R. Martin’s fans have often made jokes about how he chooses to eliminate his characters. In an interview with a crew member, it was mentioned, lightly, that some people think he just spins a wheel with their names on it so that the hard decisions are made at random. Many people would say that they dislike Cersei most, the evil queen she is, and that they would not mind if she were defeated by one of the revenge-seeking Starks. At the end of the first season, her son, Joffrey Lannister, a blood-thirsty, young, new king had chosen to behead the father of his future bride, Sansa Stark. It was at this point that many people understood who they wanted out of the game, the queens lack of sympathy for the young woman only exacerbating the hate for the Lannister name.
What viewers last found out about the fates of these characters sparked great excitement. Before seeing Daenerys and Jon together at last, many had been talking about the three-dragon theory that is in line with the events of season 7. Now that many of the characters we have come to love are together and have made alliances, fans are having an easier time predicting the outcome of the show. Characters such as Tyrion Lannister, the royal imp that prefers not to associate with his ruthless sister, Jon Snow, the King in the North, Sir Jorah Mormont, and Lady Olenna Tyrell have come together to combat Cersei’s authority. Happy to see that Olenna finally admitted to poisoning Joffrey at his wedding, Jon Snow defeat Ramsay Bolton in the Battle of the Bastards, and Sir Jorah Mormont heal from his fatal skin disease, fans are really looking forward to what is in store for the future of the throne.
“I just hope that Jon Snow doesn’t die,” states SWHS senior Sonia Prieto-Valerio. “I also hope that Arya gets the revenge she deserves from everyone on her list and that Sansa is going to be okay.”
Millions of people will be tuning in on April 14th to see what happens. Many think back on Cersei’s line from the first season before Ned Stark is beheaded when thinking back on the events of the series: “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”
