On the morning of February 3rd, Grammy-nominated rap artist Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, better known as 21 Savage, was arrested and taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ICE claims that 21 Savage is from the London borough of Newham and arrived in the U.S. in 2005. His visa expired a year later but he never left the country, hence why he was arrested.

In terms of musical success, 21 Savage has been nominated for several music awards, despite only winning two (Billboard Music Award for Top Rap Song and MTV Music Award for Song of the Year). He is nominated for two Grammys, his first nominations for the prestigious music award. He has had 6 albums out since he released his debut single in 2014. He was also accepted as an XXL Freshman in 2016. All that may come to a halt, however, now that he is in custody of ICE.

As of right now, 21 Savage and ICE are waiting on a judge to accept the case and make a ruling on what should be done to 21 Savage. If he is deported back to the UK, it would be harder for 21 Savage to make music and distribute it to the USA since he wouldn’t be in the country anymore. Deportation is certainly an option for 21 Savage. Another option may be putting him through the process of making him an official US citizen. A third being writing him a new visa for him to live off. Right now, 21 is in a bit of a limbo. He is waiting on a judge to take this case, alongside ICE. ICE is detaining him in their headquarters in Washington D.C. right now. No word on what will happen next.
