The South Windsor Public Library is offering a variety of Halloween-themed events throughout October, with something for everyone to enjoy the holiday festivities.
One fun event for younger kids and families will be the Halloween Costume Parade on Saturday, October 25, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. The parade will begin in the Children’s Program Room and make stops throughout the library. At the conclusion, there will be a puppet show presented by Pumpernickel Puppets in the Friends Room. The Children’s Department will also host a Black Cat Scavenger Hunt running all month long.
For older students, the library is holding a Spooky Story Contest for grades 6–12. Participants can submit their stories through the library’s website by visiting the Young Adult section. All entries must be rated PG-13 and set somewhere in Connecticut.
“Halloween is one of our favorite holidays here,” Kevin Sullivan, Director of Library Services said. “There are no fees for any library events, Halloween or otherwise. It’s very important to us to keep all core library services as accessible as possible to all members of the community.”
Adults can also take part in a fascinating program called “Bewitched: Styles at the Time of the Salem Witch Trials,” which will be held in the Friends Room on Saturday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. The presentation will explore the men’s and women’s fashions during the Salem Witch Trials of the 1690s, featuring images and movie clips that bring history to life.
Community members have also been enjoying the library’s Scarecrow Contest. All scarecrows will remain on display until the end of the month. The contest was a great opportunity for local organizations to promote their businesses and for families to show off their creativity. Our Savior Preschool & Child Care took first place, while The South Windsor Community Women’s Club came in second. Both winners will receive a four-pack of tickets to the Foster Family Farm Corn Maze.
“It’s wonderful to see our town library offering so many family-friendly events,” South Windsor resident Kirsten Brown said.
Throughout October, the library is also featuring displays of horror movies and books about monsters and mysteries. Be sure to visit the South Windsor Public Library this month for some truly spooktacular family fun!
