A staple for the month of October is pumpkins, and the South Windsor local family run farm, Foster Farms, is a place many residents chose to pick their pumpkins from.
Many families enjoy carving pumpkins and decorating the outside of their houses with pumpkins. This tradition is carried on through the workers at Foster Farms, offering multiple different types of pumpkins with affordable prices.
“I think pumpkins encapsulate a fall experience because they are very cute and aesthetic and they come around every fall,” senior Alanna Larmand said. “You can buy them, you can decorate them, you can paint them, and they are just really great.”
Offering around 20 different types of pumpkins for the public to enjoy, Foster Farms appreciates the significance of pumpkins. From cinderella, orange hubbard, red kuri, porcelain princess, and Frankenstein knuckle head pumpkins, these pumpkins are extremely popular within the community because they are decorative and people purchase them to add character to their homes.
“A lot of places do not offer as many options as we do for the decorative fun ones, especially at the price we offer so we have a lot of people that come to more of those than even our normal carving pumpkins,” manager Mackenzie Eppler said.
The bigger pumpkins at foster farms are $9, of 4 pumpkins for $32 and the smaller pumpkins or gourds are $2 or 3 for $5. Sometimes these smaller pumpkins even go on sale, only costing $1.
“I think the pumpkins are really affordable, and you get a really great price for what you get,” senior Alyssa Tauris said after visiting the farm. “They have a really good selection and variety of pumpkins.”
Foster Farms also preaches great customer service, and many families who visit have positive things to say about visiting. Many report that it is extremely helpful to have so many options to pick from, while also having friendly workers explain to them the difference in the pumpkins.
“I help customers by answering any of the questions they may have, along with helping to check out their orders,” Foster Farms employee Addison Sharp said. “I have even helped people load up their cars full of pumpkins and cornstalks!”
They also always try to give back to the community by offering many engaging events for families to attend. Just recently they had a Kids Pumpkin Painting Party on October 23, 2025 hosted at the local Chick-Fil-A.
Foster Farms is clearly going above and beyond for the community, offering a fun time in the fall to really bring back fall traditions that everyone loves and knows. Foster Farms goes beyond the pumpkins, and many locals appreciate the business.
“I think something that separates foster farms from other farms is just the community and the people,” Larmand said. “It has so many fun activities like the corn maze, the playground, the farm animals, the snacks, and especially the pumpkins. It is just a place that I feel really welcome and it always puts a smile on my face.”
Foster Farms is open all 7 days of the week in October from 10am-6pm, definitely stop by and check out these famous pumpkins.
