Home to numerous farms, South Windsor indulges typical fall festivities such as pumpkin picking and corn mazes. Foster Family Farm is a hot spot this time of year for families hoping to engage in fun fall activities.
“Its an inexpensive way to get into the fall spirit,” Mia Santiago told The Prowl, “its a space that’s fun for everyone.”
A tradition that South Windsor carries out every October is the annual Apple Fest. Occurring on October 4th, the Apple Fest offers a multitude of apple-themed foods from over 200 vendors. A staple at the festival and a personal favorite, apple cider donuts are a must this season.
Pumpkin spice’s prevalence every Fall in South Windsor is showcased by local coffee shops featuring fall treats as soon as the season hits. Birdhouse Cafe offers various fall items, among which is the Pumpkin Pie latte.
Getting into the Halloween spirit, South Windsor offers a variety of spooky activities, among which are haunted houses. Located near Governors Highway, Nightmare Acres offers bone-chillingly terrifying performances that will get your heart racing.

“It was really fun this year. The scares, while they didn’t necessarily get to me, were definitely exciting to see. Definitely worth it,” Chapman told The Prowl.
Halloween in South Windsor differs between neighborhoods, but a through line of candy consumption and dress up fun remains constant. Families here tend to decorate extravagantly for the holiday, with houses adorned with giant skeletons and animatronics.
These houses may be entered into a Halloween house tour map, where families can drive around, viewing houses covered in festive decorations, and vote on their favorite house via a Facebook group.
South Windsor is home to many traditions, this holiday season is an opportunity to create deeper connections within the community, and participate in amplifying holiday spirit.
