The South Windsor Teen Center hosted a special rock concert on the patio of the Teen Center on Saturday, October 11, to help provide for the local food bank from 12:00 to 2:30 pm. This event featured a young band called Second Generation, made up of middle school students from Mach 1 Music School and Cotton Drum School’s Rock Band 101 program.
Mach 1 Music school and Cotton Drum School’s Rock Band 101 are both great, local programs that can help children learn and improve their skills on specific instruments. These programs helped these middle school students become skilled musicians, which contributed to a great cause. The children in the band all rotated and played each instrument, displaying their hard work.
The concert, held on the patio, invited middle school-aged students who wanted to jam out, while making a difference in the community. For entry students had to bring one food or toiletry item such as soup, snacks, pasta, toilet paper, hand soap, etc. to donate to the South Windsor Food Bank.
“We will definitely do this event at least twice a year,” Teen Center Coordinator, Marietta St Onge, told The Prowl, confirming it to become an annual event for South Windsor.
The South Windsor Food Bank is available to help anyone in need located also at the Teen Center, operated by South Windsor Human Services. Around 65-70 families are served each month. Giving groceries and support to those in need is a sign of a caring community in South Windsor. Donations collected during the concert will go directly towards helping these families.

By the Teen center hosting this free event, the South Windsor Teen Center gave local teens a place to express themselves through music while also giving back to the community. This event displayed the Teen Center’s mission by helping children learn about both responsibility and empathy, while gaining the understanding of helping others in need firsthand.
Marietta told The Prowl how welcoming the South Windsor Teen Center truly is, “The Teen Center is here for all middle school and high school kids to have a space that will be not only safe, but inspirational as well.”
While the concert supported the South Windsor Food Bank, it ultimately succeeded with how it brought teens together under the Teen Center’s roof to make a real difference. The concert not only brings people together through rock music, but it also reminds the community of the impact that these small actions can have on the community.
