The South Windsor Public Library hosted an event called Beginner Improv workshop, where young adults were taught the basics of improv, short for improvisational theater on September 29th. Improv is where actors create dialogue, characters, and storylines without a script.
This workshop is intended to be a safe place to think freely without the judgement of others. It is an opportunity to build a community with different people and unique ideas.
The South Windsor Public Library wants to encourage everyone to come to the workshop and feel welcome. They accept everyone and encourage people to learn and practice improvisational skills.
“I want people from all walks of life.” Bella, a librarian from the South Windsor Public Library told The Prowl. “I try to promote diversity. I try to emphasize people’s experiences.”
Bella wants people to realize when they understand what they are trying to do, it helps make their creativity stronger. The whole point of this workshop is to bring people together and create an environment where they feel safe enough to let their creativity shine through.
All people have different ways of thinking, and amazing things can happen when multiple minds are put together. The library’s goal is to make everyone feel excited to take on this new workshop and find enjoyment in new hobbies. Learning skills in this interactive way helps people find more interests and explore new talents.
Library events like this compel people to have more fun in the public space and attend more engaging workshops. There are other improv studios Sea Tea Improv studios and Bring your own Improv. Those workshops are really good. These sessions build positive memories for people to reflect on whenever they visit the library. Making friends and forging connections within the workshop all helps to build the library and town community.
Apart from the bonding within the workshop, improv activities can also improve communication and speaking skills. It is a special way to change how people think and speak. How they could think on their feet for lots of things. That they can think very fast and quickly.
Activities like the Beginner Improv workshop contribute to the sense of community young adults can achieve with the connections made during town events. The experimental nature of improv and the acceptance of all learners prompts participants to discover a connection between theater, friendship, and community.
