
On Tuesday September 30th, The South Windsor Girls Varsity Field Hockey Team locked in an impressive victory against Newington. South Windsor swept Newington away, finishing the game with a 5-0 win.
The scoring started early within the first quarter a swift goal was made by freshman Kinley Cincotta. Cincotta’s speed and determination set the tone for the game and gave South Windsor an early start.
The girls’ momentum only built from there when senior Reese Pellerin scored another great and powerful goal just 3 minutes into the second quarter. South Windsor’s defense stayed strong and disciplined, consistently pushing the ball upfield with accurate passes which really helped them take the win.
The Bobcats showed teamwork and communication that stood out on and off the field. senior Captain Vannessa Leigl put one away as well in the second quarter which left Newington struggling to keep up.
Coming into the next half, the team was fired up and ready to take the field with unstoppable energy.
“I thought we played super good and really connected on our passes which is something we’ve been working for all season,” senior captain Izzy Dzubin stated.
Dzubin contributed to the team performance by breaking through the opponent’s defense, and scoring a goal which upped the team score 4-0. Dzubin and the team dominated the field all afternoon and really saw improvement in her team.
Mr. Savva Savvides is the assistant coach of the team and is always motivating and keeping spirits high in and out of the game.
“The team showed lots of determination and spirit in their great win against Newington,” Savvides said
A hard earned goal was made in the last quarter by freshman Emma Henessey which secured their win. With the girls next game approaching they were prepared to take the momentum from this game and secure another win.
“I think the drive we had to win the last 2 games will push even more to continue our winning streak,” senior Fiona Downes said.
