South Windsor has begun construction to add new equipment to the boundless playground located at 150 Nevers Road, South Windsor CT.
The original playground, built in 2007, was designed for children with all abilities. It has been a very popular visiting place for South Windsor residents and those in surrounding towns. Most playgrounds last 10-20 years, depending on use and weather, so some flooring and equipment is now in need of replacement at this location.
“The new playground will remain fully accessible, as we are committed to creating and maintaining spaces for everyone,” Director of Parks and Recreation, Molly Keays said. “With updated technology and equipment advancements since 2007, the new features will be even more accessible than before.¨
To prepare for this improvement, the top area of the playground (which includes the smaller structures, firetruck, swings, sand area, music area, and garden) has been closed to the public since September 25, 2025. The area under construction will be fenced off but the lower playground, including swings, the larger structures and pavilion will remain open.
The project is expected to be completed in early spring 2026 and will be funded through Capital Projects.
¨We use the park a few times a month, and my kids and I are excited to see the new improvements, South Windsor resident, Carmela Dahms-Lodge said.
A professional installation company will install and inspect the new playground, which will include age-specific areas, sensory-friendly equipment, and an interactive game. The parks and recreation crew will handle ongoing maintenance to keep it safe and enjoyable.
The Parks and Recreation department is excited to create this new space to meet the needs of the community and appreciates the public’s patience during construction.
