In an effort to welcome new students and make them feel at home in their new surroundings, the school recently hosted its annual New Students Breakfast. Over the course of two days, the breakfast was attended by freshmen on September 18 and by new students from other grades on September 19.
New students had the opportunity to get to know the Bobcat Ambassadors, student leaders who are on hand all year long to provide support and direction. In addition to helping students navigate campus and learn about school procedures, the Ambassadors also provided a wealth of information regarding classes, clubs, and extracurricular activities.
Additionally, new students were given the chance to socialize with their classmates in a laid-back environment. Many reported that they felt more at ease and confident about beginning the school year after meeting other new students.
After the breakfast, the Bobcat Ambassadors remain a great resource, helping new students whenever they need it. Newcomers always have someone to turn to because of their welcoming demeanor.
The New Students Breakfast was a huge success overall. It fostered a friendly environment and made new Bobcats feel included in the school community right away. This event is crucial in ensuring that all new students receive encouragement and support at the beginning of the school year.
The school is excited to carry on this tradition by assisting new students in forming relationships and assimilating into the Bobcat community.
“The New Student Breakfast provides an opportunity for incoming students to feel welcomed and recognized as part of the school community,” School Counseling Specialist for SWPS, Mr. Benjamin Wry said. “By bringing students together in a relaxed and supportive environment, the event helps foster initial connections between peers, as well as between students and staff. Events like this allow new students to become familiar with the school culture, ask questions, and begin forming relationships, which can contribute to a smoother transition and a stronger sense of belonging.”
