South Windsor High School has given the upperclassmen an important opportunity for college visits for a look into the future, beginning in September. These opportunities are presented for juniors and seniors to show what is being offered and for students to start considering where they want to pursue their education after high school.
The upperclassmen received an email from Benjamin Wry,Assistant Athletic Director and School Counseling Curriculum Specialist, regarding all information such as the colleges, times, dates, and sign-ups for representative visits.
“These visits give students an opportunity to move beyond websites and brochures — they get to have real conversations with someone who knows the campus and its programs.”
Wry told The Prowl. “Our goal is to provide every student with the tools and opportunities they need to explore their next steps after high school, and college visits are a big part of that.”
Below is information from ParentSquare and Wry’s email sent out to students:

Each of the visits lasts an estimated thirty minutes, and if a student has class to attend, the partial absence for the college visit is excused. However, it should be noted that students are expected to notify their teacher in advance, and on the day of the visit, students should report directly to the Hall of Achievement or the Main Lobby.
Numerous upperclassmen have appreciated the chance to check out future potential colleges in person, including senior Lily Hamilton.
“I thought it was really helpful to hear about all the different things Sacred Heart University has to offer for all the different majors and how it has so many opportunities for freshmen especially to get out of their dorm rooms,” Hamilton said.
Others, although they have yet to sit in on the visits, commented on it and praised their importance for those nearing graduation.
“I think college visits are extremely helpful because they give you a feel of the campus and you can see which campuses you envision yourself being on,” senior Lily Swett said.
