Allie Scott, Freshman Varsity Field Hockey Goalie and outstanding student athlete, has recently been dominating the Bobcat’s cage with her spectacular skill and dedication.
Time after time, Scott has saved seemingly hopeless shots, with her stick, padded gloves, or massive kicks. In a recent game, she even blocked a low drive by dropping into a split in her heavy goalie gear.
“I really like working with Allie because I feel like I really can trust her to have the ability to perform well,” midfielder and freshman Lilah Bolduc said. “She has definitely been a big part of our successes as a team.”
Scott’s journey to goal has been a long one, beginning in middle school.
“I started playing field hockey after I decided I needed a break from gymnastics,” Scott said. “I did a camp with Ms. Custer the summer before middle school started, and knew this sport was for me… TEMS is what built my love for the sport.”
The Timothy Edwards Middle School field hockey coach, Sally Custer, helped Scott make a full transition from midfield to elite goalkeeper. She introduced her to HTC (Hear the Cheers), an advanced club team in Connecticut.
“She encouraged me to try out, and even loaned me goalie gear to use. I tried out in the winter… and absolutely loved it,” Scott remarked.
A unique position on the field, Scott’s parents were initially surprised by her interest in the intense defensive job.
“At first, we weren’t sure about the decision and couldn’t grasp why anyone would deliberately choose to stand in front of field hockey shots,” said Allie Scott’s parents, Nicole and Andy Scott. “But after just a few games, it became obvious she was thriving.”
HTC gave Scott a multitude of opportunities to improve her skills and play in some amazing locations, like the Trinity and Yale turf fields.

Allie has tried many other programs, such as AIM, NEXUS training at Yale, and camps all over the country, some hosted by Olympians and high-level teams.
In the end, her training paid off spectacularly. Despite her status as a freshman, she quickly became the varsity goalie.
“It is a privilege I will never take for granted,” Scott commented.
Scott has big plans for the future beyond high school. Field hockey, which started for her as a break from gymnastics, is now an important part of her vision for college and adult life.
“My dream would be to play in college,” Scott said. “When my time is done at school, hopefully I can continue with field hockey in some way, and would love to help grow the game.”
Scott’s parents, although initially skeptical, fully agree.
“The camaraderie, confidence, and athleticism that come with field hockey are everything you hope your child finds in a new sport. We’re so excited for the road ahead, and one thing is for sure: we’ll be on the sidelines cheering her and her team on every step of the way.”
