On September 16th, the South Windsor High School’s boys and girls cross country teams made their yearly visit to local Foster Farm for a fun-filled, energetic practice.
Foster Family Farm is celebrating their 24th year open to the public and with that, another year of hosting a private practice for SWHS’s Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams. Throughout the duration of the evening, the teams got to run through the corn maze and around the farm property to keep up their endurance during their one week off from meets. Following the workout, a pasta party with various foods, delicious treats, and flavorful apple cider gave a wonderful close to the trip.
“I always look forward to going to the Foster Farm practice because it really bonds the team and creates so many fun memories,” senior runner Lily Lines commented. “Something I love doing there is racing everyone on the petal carts and trying to be the first one out of the maze.”
A tradition for the past three years, the cross country teams enjoy an evening of work and running, along with the team bonding experiences at a place well known all around town for its lively and loving environment.
“We all love having the teams,” co-owner Kelly Foster said. “It’s a fun thing to have everyone for a low-key afternoon. I think it’s a good way for you guys to do team building, and it’s always nice to see teenagers have fun like little kids. It’s a nice way to remember childhood memories of being at the farm!”
Foster Farm’s start of the 2025 season brings a new Western theme, as well as new additions including a concessions stand, a new combine playscape, and a bee-dance game throughout the corn maze.
“The Farm is a fun time,” girls coach, Clint Bowman added. “Where the kids think they’re just having fun but they actually get practice in running the maze.”
Between exercising throughout the property and some friendly competition, a night full of sweat, laughter, and pumpkins makes all the difference in the teams’ morale.
