South Windsor High School doesn’t have assigned parking spaces, and seniors are unable to paint their parking spots.
“One reason we don’t have painted parking spaces is that we do not have assigned parking spaces for students,” Associate Principal Tim Zeuschner said.
Some students argue that seniors should be able to paint a spot if they wish, while others have a different opinion on the topic.
“It would be bad because there would be assigned parking spots. It is nice to be able to park at the Annex or at the main building,” Abby Stricker said.
Students have freedom of where they want to park everyday. Based on the classes that students have that day they can park at the Annex or at the main building. Students also have an advantage if they get to the school earlier, because they are able to get a parking spot closer to the school.
However, other students feel that they should be able to leave their mark on the high school. Being able to paint a parking spot would let seniors express themselves and have an experience that brings the class together.
“It would boost morale and senior spirit,” Jordin Foran said.
Seniors not being able to paint a spot or customize their grad caps limits their high school experience. If these students were able to paint a spot or decorate a grad cap they could leave their mark before they move on to a new step of life.
South Windsor Highschool has never had painted parking spots but it could be a new tradition for upcoming seniors and other classes to come.
