As a new season of fall comes to the town of South Windsor, Foster Family Farms makes a change. Foster Family Farm announced on August 20th the discontinuation of their beloved mums during the upcoming fall season due to health concerns and supply issues.
For 25 years, Foster Farms’ mums have been a fan favorite. However, due to vendor availability issues and the owners’ health concerns, the farm has made the difficult decision to pause mum sales this year.
Manager of Foster Farm, Dylan Sharp, shares his gratitude and hope for next year’s season.
”While we are not selling mums this year, the support we’ve received from near and far has meant the world to us,” said Dylan.
With roots stretching back to 1790 as a dairy farm, Foster Farms has evolved over generations into a popular destination for fall family traditions like the corn maze, hayrides, and selling pumpkins and mums
Plenty of families have made it their tradition to visit the farm, and add it to their list for some family fun. Over the years, it has become more than just a farm; it’s a place where family memories are made.
While the farm is a place where families have fun, it has also become a tradition for field trips, extending the fall fun for education too.
Returning customer, Mariela Salinas, has purchased the mums from the farm for a long time to add to her fall decorations.
“I’ve bought mums from Foster Farms for years ,and they were the heart of my fall. I’m truly sad to see them stop selling,” Salinas told The Prowl.
While this is an unfortunate change to foster farms, next year still brings promise that the farm will bring them back. The mums will be missed, but there is so much more to look forward to at the farm this season.

From toddlers, to seniors, there is something for everyone. The traditional corn mazes will return this year, along with the return of night mazes for those who enjoy a spooky challenge under the stars.
Families can also set up birthday parties to celebrate at the farm with fun hayrides, friendly animals, and the new and improved playscapes for kids. Foster Farms will also be continuing their annual pumpkin sale, allowing people to pick out a pumpkin to take home as a decoration for the fall. Even without the beloved fall flower, the farm is still able to maintain the full fall experience.
While the mums are on pause, the spirit of fall at Foster Family Farm will officially be in full bloom this fall season.
