The Varsity Field Hockey Team competed against Hall High School, finishing the game with a miraculous buzzer-beating shot from Senior Captain Elsa Gately on Tuesday, September 5th. With one second left on the clock, Gately scored the Bobcat’s lone goal against Hall. The team- and the crowd- went wild.
Despite the ultimate loss, the Bobcats gave it their all, showcasing their teamwork and skills in the climatic final play. Much of the pre-season training had been dedicated to conditioning, skill training, and fast plays like the attack that finished the game.
“Everyone’s passing, spacing, and communication was excellent. We definitely put in 110%,” Freshman talent and goalkeeper Allie Scott said.
Scott had an incredible game, dutifully defending the cage. Not only did she save an aerial shot with only her stick, slamming the ball out of the air, but she also saved a stroke (otherwise known as a penalty shot).
“Once I stopped it all the stress and worries just went away,” Scott said after the game.
Field Hockey has a tough season ahead of them, but they also have a lot to look forward to, like the annual Pink-Out Game in October, where the Bobcats help to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
“The bake sale is going to be so much fun as well as the pink games, and I can’t wait to show my support for this fundraiser,” Scott commented.
The recently elected Captains-Seniors Izabel Dzubin, Vanessa Liegl, and Elsa Gately-are excited to lead the team into another intense week of play.
“In our most recent game our communication on the field was much improved,” Senior Sarah Weiner said. “It was not our best performance as a team but we [are] on the right track for a good season.”
Dzubin agreed, feeling especially honored to take on this leadership role.
“I feel grateful for being captain because it is something I have been looking forward to since I started playing,” Dzubin said. “My goals for this year are to unite the team and make sure everyone feels like they belong so that we can improve together.”
