From September 4th–7th, the Wapping Fair returned to South Windsor, filling 75 Brookfield Street with rides, food, and fun. The annual event brought the community together once again, offering something for everyone, from thrilling rides to local favorites.
The Wapping Fair brought a variety of attractions with it, but none as eye-catching as the rides. With some throwing you dozens of feet into the air to some spinning you around, it begs the question, what is South Windsor’s favorite ride at the Wapping Fair?
One fan favorite ride appears to be the “Scrambler.”
“You can have multiple people in the same seat with you and talk, but it’s not too loud that you can’t talk,” Fire Explorer and South Windsor High School Student, Derek Brunelle said.
The “Scrambler,” despite living up to its intense name, still had its spotlight taken by an other ride at the fair.

“My favorite ride was probably the Pharoah ride, I went on it a bunch of times with many different people,” volunteer and South Windsor High School Student, Kevin Pina said. “The reason why it was my favorite is because the sensation of falling made me always want to sit in the back.”
The “Pharaoh’s Fury” ride was no doubt a highlight of the Wapping Fair. Fair attendees were lining up as soon as the ride opened to experience being swung dozens of feet into the air.
Another attention grabber, was the “Wind Glider.”
“My favorite ride was the Wind Glider ride because I’m scared of going on all the other rides but this one was still fun and relaxing,” volunteer and South Windsor High School Student, Gary Hebert said.
The appeal of this ride comes from a favorite feature, that allows the riders to lie down while soaring through the air, grabbing the attention of those who are considered thrill seekers.

Behind all the thrills and screams, the Wapping Fair had other highlights worthy of mention, especially for the students and young volunteers after a long first few weeks of school. Students enjoyed unwinding while enjoying the food, as well as the atmosphere that the music performances brought to the fair.
“My favorite part of the Wapping Fair was hanging out with friends and listening to the music performances,” Hebert said.
The Wapping Fair is a special occasion for all of South Windsor, being a fun event to help ease students into the beginning of the school year while being a place for families to unwind and enjoy themselves. The town eagerly awaits next year’s fair and is ready for the rest of the Fall events coming to South Windsor.
