Sol Solis Consort is a community music ensemble based in South Windsor that performs a variety of music ranging from pop staples to famous classics.
Conducted by Eric Chen, what began as a typical string chamber orchestra, has evolved into a string, woodwind and brass ensemble, welcoming the flute, tuba, and clarinet. Sol Solis has a unique philosophy and perspective when it comes to music. Unlike traditional ensembles, musicians are not seated by their ability, but in a way that maximizes the opportunity to learn and grow- promoting a non competitive environment.
“It [Sol Solis] helped be become a better musician because I can look at people who are better than me and use their skills to improve myself,” violinist Avismit Bhattacharya said.
The ensemble represents musicians from a variety of skill levels, backgrounds and ages.
“There is a very tight knit community,” violinist Prahaladhan Rajarajan said.
Sol Solis Consort holds open rehearsals from 7-9pm every Thursday at the Wood Memorial Library year round to produce concerts in the fall, winter and spring.
With a focus on bringing musical arts to local communities, the ensemble has a tradition of performing at the South Windsor Apple Festival, Evergreen Crossing Retirement Community, South Windsor Community Center and Saint Francis Hospital.
“It [Sol Solis] goes beyond making music; you make more connections,” violinist Kacey Chen said. “I am talking with people I probably would never talk to.”
Sol Solis concerts are open to the public and upcoming performance dates are as follows:
Thursday June 19th at Evergreen Crossing, 6:15 PM
Saturday June 21 at South Windsor Senior Center, 1PM
Monday June 23 at St. Francis Hospital 12PM
