The Architecture Club, founded by junior Owen Doyle Rodriguez, is one of South Windsor High School’s newest clubs, allowing members to explore their passions for architecture and grow their understanding of it.
Rodriguez was inspired to start the club from his own ambitions and experiences.
“I… had gotten inspiration from going on vacation in a variety of places such as Florida or Texas where I would admire the environment and historic sites I visited that were so different from what I was used to in Connecticut,” Rodriguez told The Prowl.
Rodriguez currently serves as the President and Founder of the club, and is likely to continue holding that position as he enters his senior year in the fall.
The club itself is built upon its members, as its very structure is dependent on their participation and feedback.
“The structure of our club schedule is that every month or two, we have a design prompt submitted by club members to vote upon, in which we use as the theme for our next structure we create throughout the entire club. Then we host peer critiques which essentially are sessions where members display their final draft for their structure and other members provide feedback on their designs to improve for their next design, or highlights to keep consistent,” Rodriguez said.
Members of the club most recently engaged in the challenge to design a home office, helping to enhance their architectural skills.
The club’s advisor, David Gorski, feels that the club has gone well so far, and is optimistic for the future.
“My hope is that as we progress students can expand upon what they learn in the Housing and Interior design class and explore topics that are more interesting to them as an individual,” Gorski said.
Gorski also remarked about the benefits of the club, speaking on how it is allowing students to advance their knowledge in numerous types of design, including interior design, exterior design, and landscape design.
The club also paves the way for the architecture of the future, as the students strive to design ecofriendly structures and utilize new or advanced building solutions.
Pranav Paulraj, treasurer of the Architecture Club, has enjoyed his tenure with the architecture club this year, and recommends it to others.
“I would recommend this club to others because it teaches you about a software which will be something you will eventually use if you are going into the architecture field and it will also give you a more in depth view of being an architect,” Paulraj commented.
To join the architecture club, one must simply use the following code on Google Classroom: xmkby4ze. The club is always welcoming to new members, and they will pick up right where they left off in the next school year, so be sure to join if interested!
