On Wednesday, June 4th, from 6-7 pm, Unified Theater, a South Windsor High School Club, put on their yearly production in the Media Center; this year’s theme was, Mission: Kindness.
Unified Theater is an accessible theatrical activity, where students come together to create and perform their yearly play.
This year, the students came up with a topic that revolved around being secret agents trying to spread kindness.
Throughout the production, they had to perform musical dance numbers and act out real-world scenarios, where one can effectively spread kindness.
The choreography was made by junior, Nicole Makos, and the club is overall run by English teacher, Terri White.
“We picked out personalities for our acting parts,” Mrs. White commented. “And then once Nicole had the dances, she taught them to us. We rehearsed them over and over while applauding each other.”
In this production, the performers were Abby Ramirez, Anthony Garofalo, Jareed Ramirez, Lexi Sozzani, Max Willard, Nicholas Gallo, Nicole Makos, and Paige Shinkoff.
“My favorite part of being in the play was performing the dancing numbers,” Willard stated. “They played songs that I really enjoy, such as, Count On Me by Bruno Mars.”
During the dancing scenes, many popular songs were played: Count On Me by Bruno Mars; You’ve Got a Friend by Randy Newman; Keep Your Head Up by Andy Grammar; Shake It Off by Taylor Swift; Drag Me Down by One Direction; Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey.
Throughout all the previous and this years productions from Unified Theater, they end with Imagine by John Lennon in sign language.
This beautiful tradition wraps up each production, and shows the overall message that this program is trying to spread: unity.
To end off this magical night, the Barb Laurain Award was presented to a senior who showed great dedication and encouragement towards their peers. This year’s recipient was Abby Ramirez.
The Prowl looks forward to next year’s production, and can’t wait to see what great things Unified Theater will accomplish next!
