The health and physical education teachers are responsible for educating South Windsor High School students on healthy habits, exercise, mental health, and other important topics for students’ overall wellbeing.
SWHS currently offers many different classes for health and PE such as general physical education, recreational activities, dance, unified sports, team sports, strength and conditioning, family living and relationships, basic life support, and sports medicine. All of these classes have a wide range of important skills for students to learn whether it’s exercise or medical learning.
“I also truly enjoy all the electives we have in the PE department and there is something for everyone,” SWHS physical education teacher Susan Fox told The Prowl. “Whether you like a team sport, racket sport, weight training or individual sport like dance we have a lot of electives to choose from.”
Students have shown they greatly enjoy these classes.

“I feel excited to come here; it’s something that’s fun,” sophomore Braydon Falco said.
Both health and gym are a required course, but you have freedom to choose which course you would like to take.
“You get a chance to do what you want; they teach you different workouts and the teachers are amazing,” sophomore Max Stoddard explained.
Students feel that health and gym are fun and engaging classes. In PE classes students learn a variety of games, exercises, and activities that teach them not only to stay active, but also teamwork skills.
“I learned a lot of new things about physical activity and different sports,” sophomore Kevin Wind said.
In health classes students learn lots of different skills such as first aid and living saving techniques, emotional and mental health advice, nutrition, and how the human body works.
“I liked the elective BLS (basic life support) because of the life saving skills we learned,” sophomore Isabella Panek said.
Health and gym play a very important role in students’ lives as it helps shape them as athletes and people.
