This past Friday, May 24th, preschoolers at the South Windsor High School Annex held their end of the year celebration, where students and parents joined to commemorate the occasion of moving on to kindergarten or continuing their preschool education.
This event signifies the beginning of a new chapter in the student’s educational journey, and a chance to encourage them during this big step.
“Next year new challenges are going to come up, but it’s good to see that they’re growing and going on new adventures, which as a teacher is amazing to see,” preschool teacher, Arpitha Vejjupalle Subramanyam told The Prowl.
Parents of the children joined the celebration, following them through their usual school day routine and seeing the hard work they have put in throughout the spring semester.
Accompanying the graduation, there will be a number of changes for the preschoolers. Specifically those who will be spending the next year in preschool.
One of these changes is in regard to the school schedule. Rather than the children coming from 9-12, Tuesday-Friday, the children will now be going to school full time.
In response to this shift, the teachers will make accommodations to assist the preschoolers during the upcoming year.
“Next year is a big change because we’re going into full time,” Mrs. A said. “We’re looking forward to how the day is going to go and how it’s going to help and change the high schoolers too, and how we’re going to collaborate more.”
Among those changes, the program plans to shift toward a “kindergarten prep” focus, teaching children the necessary skills they will need in kindergarten.
Lastly, next year’s changes will include elementary teachers assisting in the full day learning, helping the children with art, music and PE.
“We’re also going to have the elementary teachers come in to teach art, music and PE to the kids,” child development and preschool teacher, Melissa Doherty said.
Next year’s changes bring many opportunities for children and high schooler mentors to grow and improve while preparing the children for kindergarten and beyond.
