The South Windsor School District’s student art show began on April 24th and ended on May 7th. For those two weeks, it displayed art projects from South Windsor students ranging from elementary to high school, providing a great conclusion to the 2024-2025 school year.
The show happens every year to explore different types of art and masterpieces that students create. It also reflects the assignments that students have been working on in their art classes.
“The annual art exhibition is the celebration of the student artwork from each school in South Windsor,” SWHS art teacher Jessica Ziff said.
At the grand opening, the schools divide up the gallery space as equality to display 2-D and 3-D work. The artwork is filled with three dimensional artwork such as pottery, jewelry and sculptures.
At this exhibit, many artworks are filled with many talented people from South Windsor and they all come together to show the best works that they have to offer.
“The concept is to show work from the entire district and from students of all ages/grades. This allows our students to see where they can go in the future and reflect on what they have made in the past,” SWHS Art teacher Roxanne Lane said.
Lane is very proud of all her students that participated in the art show. She says that they have “worked very hard to improve their skills, refine their work [and] to make challenging and creative pieces.”
The pieces in the show were based on similar curriculums, but differed in how students interpreted those possibilities. Students have the freedom to choose their subject matter in most of the pieces that they create, giving the show variety.
The show was very unique in that it gathered a lot of information about each art piece and the process of its creation. This depth and hard work paid off, as the turnout for this year’s show was busier than usual according to Ziff.
“We were fortunate to welcome students, families and friends throughout the opening hours on the 24th. We usually do experience good attendance, but this one felt very busy,” Ziff said.
Overall, the 47th Exhibition Art Show in South Windsor was a success and gave student artists throughout the district an opportunity to put their work on display.
