
On May 8th, the girls lacrosse team faced off against Newington in a nail-biting away game that ended with a victorious score of 14-13. Despite the on-and-off rain, the team’s determination shone through, leading to an exciting match filled with hard work and teamwork.
“It was a close game, but we put in a ton of effort to come out on top,” junior Jillian Yelle said.
At one point the Bobcats were down by two and then up by two and then it was tied. The ‘Cats even needed to hold the ball for the last two minutes to maintain the lead and avoid overtime.
Freshman defender Molly Willard reflected on the team’s performance, stating, “The game really showcased our hard work, effort, and teamwork. We were able to achieve victory while sticking together as a team.”
Throughout the game, the team demonstrated excellent communication across all positions, effectively calling plays that kept the opposing team guessing.
One standout strategy was the “Trinity” play, which involves a three-man weave and stacking cuts inside the 8-meter arc.
“I think it was beautiful. We worked as a team, crashed as a team, and effectively communicated against the other team’s offense,” freshman Prithi Suriyakumarr remarked. “Playing defense was so fun because of how close the game was, and our team was so cohesive throughout the game.”
Senior attack, Elise Suffish, highlighted the significance of the victory, saying, “It was a major turning point for us. We put all the right things together on the field, and it worked.”

The team has their own mascot, Frederick, a stuffed bobcat, that is presented to a standout player each game. This game, senior Katelyn Bullock recieved this recognition for being able to receive the ball and following through with multiple shots.
The girls’ lacrosse team continues to impress with their resilience and teamwork, and this win serves as a testament to their dedication on and off the field.
