SWHS instructional coach, Mrs. Janet Belval was nominated for the Connecticut Science Educator Fellow Award (CSEF) by the Connecticut Science Teachers Association.
The Connecticut Science Teachers Association presents awards in support of excellence in science teaching, science learning, and support of science in Connecticut.
The award is presented to a science educator who has demonstrated a career of outstanding teaching, leadership in science education, and dedicated service to professional science organizations within the state.
“I was very surprised,” Belval said. “It meant a lot to me because I put a lot into what I do with Science Olympiad.”
On May 21st, Belval will go down to the Reception Sacred Heart University Discovery Science Center in Bridgeport to receive her award.
This award is not given out every year and not to just anyone. To be considered as a candidate, you must have previously won state awards, demonstrated excellence in classroom science teaching, as well as having at least twenty years of teaching experience.
Belval has demonstrated this by being South Windsor’s Teacher of the Year in 2017, CT Bio Teacher of the Year, as well as other state awards and being highly respectd in the classroom environment. She has shown professional and personal growth by doing so much in her community.
While Belval has worked extremely hard to win this award, she couldn’t have done it all on her own without the people around her.
“I think it would dedicate it to everyone who helped me with Science Olympiad. A lot of students have helped me throughout the years, including the Board of Science Olympiad.” Belval said.
