
Pre-Meet Report:
South Windsor High School girls’ track team is currently undefeated with a record of 2-0. The team hopes to maintain this record when they go against the Windsor girls’ team on Tuesday, April 22nd. In addition to the girls’ team, the South Windsor boys’ track team has a record of 1-1 and aims to get their record to 2-1 against the Windsor boys’ team.
Post-Meet Report:
Unfortunately, the boys’ and girls’ track teams lost to Windsor. However, there were many positive highlights among the teams, particularly for the girls’ team, which achieved a lot of personal records (PRs) and scored points against the Windsor team.
The final score of the meet was Windsor 97, South Windsor 53, with Windsor leading with a 44-point difference against the girls’ team. Despite this loss, the girls’ team had many highlights and wins.
The relay scorers were:
- All 4×4 teams swept the event, placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
- The 4×8 team consisting of Sofia Holovatska, Racheal Matyschsyk, Kiran Thaker, and Nora Cayward placed 2nd.
- The 4×1 team consisting of Jaya Pichay, Ariana Rosario, Gabrianna Knowles, and Keeley-Ann Scott placed 3rd.
The individual scorers were:
- Pole Vault was swept by Maddie Cunha who placed 1st, Lauren Ledger who placed 2nd, and Izabella McKenna who placed 3rd.
- Kaleigh Aparo placed 3rd in the Triple Jump
- Sadhana Ganesan placed 2nd in the Triple Jump
- Krista Mogor placed 2nd in the Long Jump
- Izabella McKenna placed 3rd in 300-meter hurdles
- Kiran Thaker placed 3rd in the 800-meter
- Celine Nguyen placed 3rd in the 3200 (2 miles)
- Mallory Mead placed 1st in both Javelin and High Jump
- Sofia Holovatska placed 2nd in both the 800 and the 1600 (1 mile)
- Jaya Pichay placed 2nd in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes
Additionally to placing at the meet, Junior Sofia Holovatska told the Prowl, “I’m proud of my performance at the Windsor meeting. Being able to PR in the 1600, was validating because I know my fitness has improved a lot since last spring.”
SWHS Junior Xelayna Flordelis was watching the meet from the stands and congratulated her best friend Izabella McKenna on how she did. Flordelis said, “I am very proud of how Bella did. I watched her PR in her events and it was nice to see her determination to get better times to qualify for her Middletown Invite.”
Although the meet didn’t go as everyone wanted regarding a win, there were many highs to the meet itself and the athletes are now looking forward to their meet against RHAM on April 29th.
Regarding the RHAM meet, Holovatska said, “I hope to have a breakthrough in the 800 meter and have a solid time under my belt, so I can go into the Middletown Invite feeling confident.”
