The South Windsor High School Theatre Department proudly presents ‘Radium Girls’ for the annual play. The play follows the course of a young girl fighting against the injustice of the US Radium Corporation as her health deteriorates from the radium poisoning her employers had unknowingly caused.
The cast, surprisingly and fittingly enough, features no male actors. All roles in the play are performed by female students, encapsulating the spirit of the ‘Radium Girls’.
This is the director, Caroline Schroer’s first time directing a play. In the past, she has choreographed many musicals and assisted with directing and stage managing. While this next experience has proven to be daunting, she is excited to learn as she goes.
“I have been both excited and nervous from the start, but working with this group of students has been very rewarding,” Schroer said.
On the flip side, the cast has brought boundless energy to the stage and worked hard to capture the indomitable spirit of the ‘Radium Girls’. Everyone is working hard to deliver their best performance.
For some of the actresses, this performance will be their last at SWHS. Many of the performers are graduating seniors. This final performance is a bittersweet moment for many of the seniors.
“The thing that makes this last performance so great is definitely the people,” senior Allyson Benblatt, said. “I love the cast and it’s so fun to work with them and it’s such a nice closure. I’m not majoring in anything theater related, but I would love to continue theater recreationally if available.”
Opening night will be on Friday, April 25th at 7:00 PM and the second performance will be the next day on Saturday, April 26th at the same time.
Tickets are on sale for $5 for students and $10 for non-students. For the QR code, check out The Prowl’s website.
