From saving goals to scoring them, senior captain Will Castelhano (#2) has been a major force behind the Bobcat lacrosse team’s success.
“I’ve been playing with Will my whole life, and he’s always shown he’s the best player on the field,” junior Josh Fine stated. “He can play every position on the field and is the most versatile athlete I’ve ever seen. He’s truly a freak athlete. He would always play good because he would always show up with the huzz and is someone alot of us underclassmen look up to.”
On top of his athletic ability, Will is also known for his leadership off the field. Whether it’s organizing team dinners, checking in on underclassmen, or setting the tone at practice, he’s always doing something to bring the team closer.
Castelhano was inspired to play by his dad, Mark Castelhano who played throughout high school and in college. His dad signed him up for it, and he’s rolled with it ever since.
Playing since 3rd grade, Will always loved the sport. Freshman year he went into the season as an attackman, but the coaches transformed him into a goalie.
“Will is our facilitator for our defense. Without him, I’m not sure where we would be. He’s a great keeper and stops the ball from going in, ” junior Mason Deciantis explained.
Originally slated to play JV goalie, Castelhano quickly exceeded expectations and earned the starting varsity spot. Now, he’s returning to his roots, switching to attackman during halftime.
“I’ve been playing with Will since kindergarten, and he’s nothing short of a great teammate and leader and is someone I personally look up to, ” senior Adam Saada told The Prowl.
Last season, in a close game against Hall, Castelhano took it coast to coast where he tied up the game 3-3 and pushed the team’s moral up.
The Bobcats currently have a record of 5-2 where Captain Castelhano and the ‘Cats will be facing off against St. Paul Catholic at home tomorrow at South Windsor High School’s turf.
As the Bobcats head into the second half of their season, Castelhano’s versatility and leadership will be key to their playoff push.
