From March 14th to April 27th, the Environmental Club is hosting a Trees for a Change Fundraiser to support the wildlife that was impacted by the LA wildfires.
For just $23.00, a tree will be planted in California in your name or someone else’s, along with a personalized card, to help restore damaged ecosystems.
This meaningful gesture can make a lasting impact and also serve as a thoughtful gift for others.
The Environmental Club at SWHS is led by students who are interested in exploring environmental issues and finding possible solutions to address them.
Looking into the problems in California regarding wildfires, the Environmental Club has taken it upon themselves to find ways to help.
One of these ways, planting trees, is implemented in order to restore ecosystems and help the land recover from this disaster.

The student leading this fundraiser, Aahana Nayak, shares how these trees will make a lasting impact regarding wildlife.
“Though trees do normally take 20-30 years to fully mature and grow, their impacts can be seen in only a year,” Nayak stated. “When a tree grows to be a year old, they already absorb around 40-50 pounds of carbon dioxide into the air.
Planting these life-saving trees helps prevent large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions, which negatively affect wildlife.
Even though over time these ecosystems will restore from these wildfires, planting trees helps speed up the process.
“The locations are chosen by the ones with the greatest need,” Nayak stated. “Typically ones that have been recently devastated by wildfires.”
These carbon absorbers help many locations that are vulnerable to wildfires and aid destroyed habitats.
