South Windsor High School takes pride in its various extracurricular activities offered to students, The Puzzle Society is one of the diverse clubs provided for SWHS students.
This year, the club is organized by seniors Rhea Hossain and Sneh Detroja and holds meetings throughout the school week. During these meetings, club members solve various types of puzzles.
“We founded this club because we had a passion for solving not only jigsaw puzzles together but also crossword puzzles, Wordle, and other fun things that kind of messed with our brain and gave us a challenge,” Hossain told The Prowl.
Most members join for the puzzles, but stay for the most impactful component of the puzzle club: the connections made between members.
This up and coming club consists of approximately 6 members, who all have the common goal of completing challenging puzzles throughout the school year. A survey is provided for club members to determine which puzzles members are interested in completing.
In an interview with The Prowl, student leader Molly Willard explained how the opportunity to join The Puzzle Society was presented to her. While sitting in her science class, her teacher introduced her to the fun, engaging club.
“My science teacher, Mrs. Davis, had us make a Bingo card for what our goals were regarding the year 2025. For one of my goals, I put down doing 10 different puzzles! My science teacher was intrigued by this answer, and one day she had me go down to Mrs. Powell’s room to drop off a puzzle. The quick trip ended up being a fun conversation about joining The Puzzle Society,” Willard explained.
Moving forward, Willard assumed the role of a club leader, now working hand in hand with the High School to promote the Puzzle Society.
“My favorite part about being a club leader is helping run the club behind the scenes! I enjoy making the posters, hanging them up, and making anything else for the club,” Willard commented.
The Puzzle Society was recently invited to partake in the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Annual Stress Fest. As a newer club at SWHS, making their debut at the Stress Fest was a success. The club provided an array of puzzling activities that students completed to relieve pent up stress.
Outside of the Stress Fest, students have the opportunity to join the Puzzle Society for these stress relieving activities year round. Any students interested in puzzling fun, should consider joining The Puzzle Society as the club continues to grow.
