Mind’s Eye is holding a poetry contest available to all SWHS students with the deadline on Friday, March 14th.
The contest has been advertised through flyers and the announcements, as well as posted on English Google Classrooms.
The winner of the contest will receive a gift card and a feature in the SWHS literacy magazine. This contest allows students to show their creativity, refine their craft and gain recognition for their work.
Students can submit a poem about anything with the minimum requirement of 5 lines.
The Mind’s Eye Literary magazine club is run by Mrs. Amanda Flachsbart. Students in the club will review and judge each student submission.
“The judging itself takes place with all the members and everybody kind of looks and reviews each submission, so that it’s not just one or two students deciding on who wins,” Flachsbart said.
Some past winners of these contests have moved on to achieve greater success in writing and poetry.
“We did have one winner who is now majoring in English,” Flachsbart said. “I think he might have been the runner up for his year, but he won.”
Mind’s Eye has been holding contests for students throughout the years. This year is the third year in a row they have opened an opportunity for students to compete in art, poetry, or writing.
“Hopefully students take advantage of this opportunity due to its ability to communicate and the realm to discover your strengths,” Mia Santiago, a sophomore student at SWHS said.
