Despite her young age, Sophomore Oliva Costello has been making waves and finding success on the court. With her natural talent for the sport coupled with her ability to improve week after week, she’s shown that she is a key player on the Bobcat’s team.
Costello’s love for the sport of basketball started in the fourth grade and she hasn’t put the ball down since. With her mentality of, “there’s always something to improve…”, she stays motivated and enjoys playing with others who have the same passion because, as Costello says, it “makes it worth it”.
Freshmen and Teammate Shea Brochu stated, “Olivia is a standout player on the court because she knows when to pass, when to drive, and when to take the right shot, making her a great player.” She likes testing her limits, improving her skills, and working through difficult moments on the court.
Costello grew up watching college basketball and playing the sport with her family. Someone who can find a love for the sport of basketball will always have more success because it’s something they truly enjoy playing.
Even at a young age when kids begin playing it’s as if they’re a part of something bigger than themselves in a community of people who love the game. When Costello started playing basketball, she realized that she really liked it. She began playing more and more often even in championships.
Over the last seven years she’s been playing, Costello has made her fair share of memories on the basketball court.
“During my AAU season, winning tournaments and winning hard games with my team and coach were super exciting and memorable for us, and always gave us things to keep working toward,” Costello told The Prowl.
When asked what keeps her motivated to keep playing, Costello explained, “Creating memories and winning hard games is what makes basketball feel like you’re part of a community of players”.
Costello and the rest of the Bobcats squad currently boast a record of 9-8 with just a couple games left as they look to make some noise in the upcoming playoffs.
