South Windsor High School art teacher, Mrs. Argenta, has been working with her art classes to update the current murals in South Windsor High School’s cafeteria to include all four seasons.
With plans to ultimately place the finished pieces on the wall inside the Café above the booths, the paintings are still in the drafting process and are scheduled to be completed in the spring. Currently, the murals are being stored in the basement hallway up against the wall.
Artists from any grade level taking drawing or painting (intro, intermediate or advanced) classes are able to work on the mural, but anyone who would love to work on it and is currently taking an art class is eligible. Students are able to work on the murals when they are finished with their work in class or afterschool at art club.
“I think the way that the textures are panning out looks really nice. Like the kid kind of like really, like pops out from the lake. And I feel like there’s like, really good, like depth there, and I like it, SWHS student who is working on the mural, Jordan Rivera said.
This painting is meant to evoke the feeling of summer in South Windsor but could also create new thought from students viewing it.
“Honestly, I kind of just hope they see, it’s kind of like, beautiful in its own way. I guess I know that sounds kind of stupid, but I feel like, just seeing like this is just really pretty and natural,” Rivera said. “I hope people see what’s going into this, rather than just like a picture on the wall that’s like, you feel like it kind of means something.”
Students in these classes have already painted, finished, and put up two other murals started and finished in the 23-24 school year. Those two are Fall and Spring of South Windsor, and they are now currently working on Summer.
The inspiration for this theme comes from various photos chosen by faculty members, and the final image was chosen by the art club and SWHS Principal, Mr. Joseph Leroy.
