Dairy Queen located on Sullivan Ave in South Windsor first opened on June 3rd, 2013, and has done very well ever since. DQ continues to gain popularity from consumers despite numerous restaurants nearby and has officially been named South Windsor’s ‘Chill’ Spot by The Prowl.
Dairy Queen is in a close proximity to South Windsor High School, making it very convenient for students to grab a quick bite after school. Home to a wide variety of food and ice cream, there is always something for everyone. There also tends to be a diverse customer population, varying from teenagers and children to senior citizens looking to enjoy a frozen treat.
Dairy Queen is a major hot spot for ice cream when it comes to the summer, with their signature Blizzard treat being one of the most popular items. The Blizzard treat consists of soft-serve ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or twist), and tends to be blended with different candies or cookies. Some of the most popular flavors include Oreo, Reese’s, and M&M. While these blizzards are served all year, Dairy Queen also sells a “Blizzard of the Month” every month. These blizzards can be a seasonal blizzard, like the Peppermint Hot Cocoa blizzard which was served during the month of December.
The work environment at the restaurant also stays positive, thanks to the managers trying to maintain high morale.
“The morale of Dairy Queen is at an all time high; we are a great team that steps up to support each other through ups and downs of the industry,” Dairy Queen manager Jessie Williams added.
Along with this, most of the Dairy Queen staff enjoy working at such a place, as they feel the work environment is fun and a great place for South Windsor High School students. The Prowl interviewed one of the more recent employees who has been working at DQ since April 2024, and got his early thoughts on the experience.
“I do like working at Dairy Queen, especially when my friends are on the same shift as me. The work environment isn’t too stressful, and it is easy to get along well with all my coworkers and managers,” employee Adam Saada told The Prowl.
The restaurant loves helping the community out as well, having held multiple fundraisers in the past for various organizations, including different clubs at South Windsor High School, and its high popularity with the town and the high school’s students made it one of the best Chill spots in South Windsor.
