Teagan Purcell is a sophomore and SWHS athlete on the girls varsity basketball team. Playing since a young age, Purcell has shown consistent love for the game.
“I play basketball because my whole family has always loved playing and watching it. I started it at a young age and discovered the joy, I just fell in love with the process and learning how to do different things” Purcell said.
Purcell loves being a part of the SWHS Girls Basketball team because it gives her the opportunity to play with a wide range of players, some she’s known forever, and some she’s never played with.
“My favorite thing about playing for SWHS is being able to be a part of a team and being able to play with both people I’ve played with since I was really young, and the upperclassmen who I’ve always looked up to,” Purcell stated.
Purcell draws inspiration from her father, who taught her the sport and coached her throughout her childhood. As a lifelong basketball player, she gained valuable knowledge and experience through his teaching.
“My biggest inspiration is probably my dad because he was my first coach and I played with him until I was in 8th grade. I think he’s been my biggest supporter and mentor in my basketball career, and I remember watching him play when I was really young and always wanting to play like him,” Purcell explained.
Being on the team has given Purcell the opportunity to be challenged and grow as a player.
“One memory that I have from playing at SWHS was the first game I started as a freshman against East Hartford, and it was a really important game, so I was really nervous, and it ended up being really close and going into double overtime,” Purcell recalled.
Purcell is excited to continue her basketball career at SWHS and looks forward to the rest of her season playing on the varsity team.
