On Tuesday January 7th, on 150 Sullivan Ave, South Windsor welcomed the Hartford Baking Company into town. The bakery held a soft launch on, opening at 7 am and closing at 4pm.
The Hartford Baking Company is located in the new plaza off of Sullivan Avenue, near Route 5. Construction started in May, but the lease for the building was signed before the plaza was built.
Now that the Plaza is up and running, people are excited for the Hartford Baking Company taking its place in the plaza, and bringing in something new.
This Baking Company menu features a variety of delicious delights ranging from breakfast foods to lunch items and not to mention their handmade bread, that is fresh out of the oven on a daily basis.
Their pastries, which include, their ‘famous scones’, muffins, cinnamon walnut coffee cake, brownies, shortbreads and cinnamon buns, are “pure butter, local fruits, and nothing artificial (ever)” according to their website.
Additionally, the site describes how they “produce a full line of hand-crafted espresso drinks, teas and some amazing brewed coffee” to get your morning, or keep your afternoon, going.
South Windsor will be the Baking Company’s 4th location. They already have locations in West Hartford, Farmington, and Glastonbarry, and the residents of South Windsor are excited to have South Windsor as its newest location.
Scott Kluger, owner of Hartford Baking Company, opened the business about 15 years ago in 2010. In an interview with The Prowl, Kluger discussed the experience of launching the first location, and his vision to open more.
“This was a perfect location to open in, due to its proximity. Opening this new location allowed people to have a Baking Company that was close, and not have to travel far. South Windsor was also a good place that was in between and a really great community,” Kluger stated.
Although this location is the 4th Hartford Baking Company location, it stands out because of its drive-through. While the drive through isn’t open yet, it sets the business apart, as drive-throughs are rare for independent businesses.
“There aren’t any artisan drive throughs that I know of in the country, so we thought let’s do it; why not?” Kluger said. “It’s very rare to have an independent drive through, you see them at Dunkin, Starbucks, and Mcdonalds, but you rarely see an independent business have one.”
South Windsor Residents are really excited about this location, according to Kluger.
Many previously traveled to the Glastonbury location, which is about 20 minutes away. So when they heard about the South Windsor location opening, they were ecstatic. The shop is open Monday through Sunday 7am-4pm.
