The appearance of a school plays a key role in creating a positive environment for students
Principal of South Windsor High School, Mr. Joseph LeRoy, took the initiative at the beginning of the 2024-2025 year to put up posters embodying the Portrait of a Graduate attributes.
These posters are designed to create an environment that reflects the students and their presence in the school.
The objective is “to build that culture and climate to see your friends’ faces, to see classrooms in action, looking at what dreaming, achieving and inspiring looks like,” LeRoy said.
Pictures that are taken and put on posters, are captured by a photography company to capture moments in action.
According to Principal LeRoy, there has been a huge amount of positive responses about the posters, especially from students and staff members who enjoy seeing the photos on posters.
In fact, the majority of students expressed excitement about their appearance on a poster. A couple of students were surprised to see themselves on the posters, and some also wondered how they could get on a poster.
The first time senior Christianna Macchi saw herself on a poster outside of the cafeteria, she was surprised and then laughed with her friends.
“I really like it because I think it is pretty cool to have your picture on the wall, especially when it is you and your best friends,” Macchi said.
The positive feedback has been resounding.
“It made me feel inspired,” senior Cooper Anderson commented.
Principal LeRoy agrees.
“There is a growing appreciation of just being part of the school community, whether it’s a picture, a post on Instagram, or doing classwork in the hallway; we are all part of the same team and same family,” LeRoy told The Prowl.
The high school is trying to not just show the academic and civic ideas fostered in the building, but also highlight extracurricular excellence. Principal Leroy hopes to continue to promote the Portrait of Graduate attributes and encourage students to reach their full capacity.
