On January 5th, 2025 the South Windsor Rec Department boys basketball had their first game of the season.
During week 1, there were a total of 3 games, with the Buckeyes losing to the Wolverines 58-18; the Spartans losing to the Beavers 50-24, and the Wildcats losing to the Ducks 44-34.
“It’s going to be a fun season because teams are enjoying themselves and having fun without competition. Senior Logan Smith is a standout player on the Ducks because he usually always has the ball and is in great position to score,” spectator Alex Decantis explained. “Attending the games makes you enjoy watching basketball.”
During the games, there was a lot of competitiveness going on between the South Windsor community. Senior Will Castelhano would agree.
“The whole team played great. We had lockdown defense forcing many turnovers the whole game. Offensively we had many contributions from the entire lineup and senior Tyler Romero really stepped up and hit shots and played good defense for his first ever game,” Beavers Player, Castelhano stated.
Rec Basketball really brings the community together, and it’s all everyone talks about at school. Practices are once a week and games are hosted at Pleasant Valley every Saturday around 4-6 pm.
“I’ve won 2 championships in 2 years and my team is going to have a perfect season this year going 10-0,” Wolverines player Isaac Gerber stated.
Week 2 of Rec Basketball starts off this Saturday, January 11th where the Buckeyes will be facing off the Ducks; The Wolverines against the Spartans, and the Beavers against the Wildcats.
The Buckeyes, Spartans, and Wildcats hope to redeem themselves this Saturday in their games as they are currently 0-1 to start off their season.
