As Winter Break is rapidly approaching, South Windsor High School students and staff are ready for the holidays
During the week before winter break, from December 16th to 20th, students and staff will participate in Holiday Spirit Week.
The process was quite easy. As everyone loved the ideas from last year, the Student Council decided to use the same ones again this year.
In order to gain maximum participation, the Student Council utilized their Instagram with over 680 followers as their main source of outreach. They encouraged their club members to spread the word to their friends, along with making Holiday Spirit week posters to put out across the school. They also used the Bobcat Nation News to get the message out there.
Monday was Holiday Colors Day! Which means everyone wears green and or red to celebrate.
Tuesday was Flannel Day where all students and staff wore they favorite pieces of flannel clothing.
Wednesday was Holiday Hat Day! The halls were littered with Santa hats, elf hats, reindeer antlers and a bunch more holiday headwear.
Thursday was Winter Wonderland Day! Meaning every South Windsor student and staff member wore winter colors such as blues, greys and whites.
Friday the day right before break is Pajama Day! Everyone wore comfy pj’s before leaving for winter break.
Along with Spirit Week days, South Windsor High School also has some other holiday traditions such as the annual one dollar picture to get taken with Hodge Claus, Carlson Elf and Mrs. Barrett Claus.
A new tradition was also introduced such as the Bobcat Block door decorating competitions. Which was a friendly competition where Bobcat blocks decorated their doors in order to win a catered breakfast. It was another way of getting people excited for winter break.
Senior and Student Council Member, Sophia Ghagare was able to share her favorite part of holiday spirit week.
“My favorite part about Spirit Week is taking fun pictures with my friends and enjoying the moments where we’re all united in wearing fuzzy socks or plaid pajama pants. It’s just fun to be a part of! I’m especially savoring it the most since I’m a senior, and it’s my last Spirit Week!” Ghagare said.
Overall, South Windsor Students and staff had an amazing Holiday Spirit Week, and they all can’t wait for winter break to start.
