On December 6th, the South Windsor Parks and Recreation Department (SWPRD) had a special visitor all the way from Mount Crumpit, the Grinch showed up to spread holiday cheer for their 6th annual event called Grinchmas.
Grinchmas was created in 2018, and has been an enjoyable event for South Windsor families during the holiday season.
“The first year we did it a ton of people came and it’s been a hit ever since,” SWPRD Recreation Supervisor, and Grinchmas coordinator, Shelby Kosa commented.
Starting at 6:30, families joined the long que to meet the Grinch. While kids waited to meet the Grinch they participated in ‘Grinch-activities’ such as play dough, coloring, bingo and so much more.
Each year, the South Windsor Parks and Recreation Department strives to create engaging holiday activities for the town of South Windsor, with Grinchmas being one of the most popular events.
Decorated for the holidays, the Grinchmas display got everyone into the holiday spirit. Kids and families showed off their Grinch love by wearing “Grinch-gear” to the event.
In an interview with The Prowl, Kosa expressed the joy the children brought her.
“My favorite part of Grinchmas is seeing all the kids show up in their Grinch costumes, Grinch sweaters, Grinch hats. I just love to see those smiles,” Kosa said.
Along with getting to see the Grinch, families could stay and dive into the numerous ‘Grinch-activities’. Kids decorated ornaments and sticker scenes, solved word searches, word decoders and even created their own Grinch name. In addition, a photo booth was available for families to commemorate the event.
Prior to the event, SWPRD staff came to set up decorations which mocked the appearance of Dr. Suess’s Mount Crumpit and created an engaging environment for the young children.
“I love getting to do all of the decorations and set up. [I also] love to see the kids and their reactions to the Grinch,” Riley, a Grinchmas volunteer, stated.
At the end of the night, families returned back to their warm homes, with new holiday memories, and a photo with the Grinch, awaiting the arrival of the next Grinchmas event.
