On Friday, December 6th, South Windsor High School had its 2nd annual interACT Pajama Day, ‘PJ Palooza’. This tradition is one everyone enjoys, students and faculty together. The tradition asks students and faculty to bring at least $1 in order to participate, which is donated to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center’s fund to help battle childhood cancer.
Students and faculty dress up in different types of pajama spirit, earning points for the level of participation they have. For example, students earned half a point for wearing PJ pants or slippers, and 1 point for wearing bathrobes, bringing a stuffed animal, or wearing a matching PJ set. They also could earn 2 points for wearing a onesie, and the Bobcat Block overall earned 3 points if the teacher participated. The more pajama gear a student wore, the more points they got.
Interact also motivated students to donate by offering points based on the monetary donations. For example, $1-$10 earned 3 points, $11-$15 earned 4, and so on.
You may be wondering what these points mean, and what students can do with them. Well, the High School’s Interact club promised to provide the Bobcat Block with the most points with a cookie and pizza party. This was all students needed to participate and donate, as students all around the school showed up in pajama spirit.
Mr. Gilroy’s 10th grade Bobcat Block earned the most points for participation, earning themselves the pizza/cookie party.
Along with that, Mrs. Simcik’s Bobcat Block earned the most money, donating over $43.00. She was very satisfied with her students’ fundraising.
“My students really wanted to support CCMC, and were really motivated to get that free breakfast!” Simcik told The Prowl.
PJ Palooza was a success, with Interact bringing in over $400 total from SWHS, and donating it all to CCMC’s Children’s Cancer Prevention Foundation. The Bobcats pulled off another successful fundraising spirit day, and are looking forward to the Holiday spirit week next week, starting the 16th.
