Now that fall sports have come to a close, the opening of South Windsor High School’s winter sports has started. On Monday, December 9th, SWHS boys’ Swim and Dive team had their first practice.
For the 2024-2025 season, head coach Laura McLaughlin and assistant coach Sarah Feeney have returned to coach this year’s season. They have followed the senior team members through all four years of competing on the team, and the seniors are looking forward to another successful year with them. Being a senior changes the perspective and responsibility of many swimmers.
“Being on the team as a senior is different because now I am the one the freshmen look up to,” senior Dylan Baumgartner told The Prowl.
With a new wave of freshmen on the team, many of them are looking forward to experiencing their first high school season this year, and are looking to the senior swimmers for guidance throughout the season. Many of the new team members haven’t experienced daily rigorous practices, and competing on a school team before.
“I’m looking forward to the meets and building myself to get better throughout the season,” said freshman Andrew Cherubini. This is his first season this school year participating in a school sport, and is ready to take on the challenges in front of him throughout the season.
Last season, divers Dylan Baumgartner, Ian Park, and Emma Cherubini all placed top 10 at the CCC tournament, and Baumgartner progressed to the first round of states. At the swimming CCC tournament, the swim team placed 2nd overall, and at states they placed 5th overall in the class L finals. With these results from last year, the team is motivated to push themselves and meet and attempt to beat these records to have a successful and exciting season.
As the season progresses, South Windsor High School will continue to express their support towards the boys’ as they dominate the water and compete throughout this year’s season.
