On November 15th, South Windsor’s Varsity Football team faced the Simsbury Trojans and came out victorious 32-24.
There were a lot of major highlights during the game, but the major contributions were from quarterback Jake Pflederer who scored three touchdowns for the ‘Cats after being injured for the past three weeks.
“The O line played the best game of the year as a unit, and therefore we rushed for 400 yards. It was a very physical game, and it’s the kind of game that made the whole coaching staff really proud,” Coach Mabey stated.
The Bobcats’ center, Nihaal Thakran agreed on this being one of the best games of the season for the O line.
In the first quarter, the Bobcats were down by 3 points because the Trojans kicked a field goal.
The second quarter the ‘Cats came back with Pflederer scoring the first touchdown of the game and Ethan Burke scoring a 2 point conversion.
¨Dom MacNeil’s big hit right before time really set the tone for the 2nd half even though we were down,¨ senior Adam Saada stated.
At halftime, the ‘Cats were losing 10-8; however, their expectations were still high for the second half. The ‘Cats kept their heads up and played their best. They were not letting themselves get on the bus home with another loss.
“We came out at halftime losing, and in the past, games like that usually don’t go our way. The team really pulled through together though, defensively and offensively, and we managed to pull off a well deserved win,” senior captain Nihaal Thakran told The Prowl.
Both teams played their best, maintaining a close score the entire game.
During the 2nd half, Pflederer scored an additional two more touchdowns for the ‘Cats and Burke scored again leaving the game with a final score of 32-24.
Another key player in this game was Senior captain Ethan Burke who had 116 rushing yards and 23 passing yards in this game alone.
GameTimeCT, a major sports newspaper in Connecticut, Interviewed Pflederer on his thoughts and performance after the game.
The final game for the ‘Cats is this Friday, November 22nd at 6:30 PM at Enfield High School competing to keep the Route 5 trophy again this year.
