On Wednesday, November 6th, at 6:00 p.m., Timothy Edwards’s 8th graders visited South Windsor High School with their parents to learn about the high school and what it has to offer.
The event was organized by high school administrators and school counselors.
The school’s Pep Band was there as well and performed throughout the evening keeping the parents and students entertained.
“We had a fun time welcoming in the students and getting to play our instruments again together as a group,” sophomore Emily Attenello, a Pep band member told The Prowl
The event was designed to help the upcoming 9th graders, who are currently 8th graders become familiar with the high school and its environment.
“The music was a great way to set the tone for the evening, the principal was a great speaker and made everyone feel welcome. It was a great way to learn more about the high school and start our high school career,” a parent who attended the event explained.
The event was popular with around 400 kids and parents attending. Administrators planned several events to help the students explore the building. One of the activities was a scavenger hunt, where participants searched for locations within the school, such as classrooms, the gym, the library, and the main office. This experience allowed the students to get a feel for the school while having fun with their peers.
“It got me to know the layout of the school better and understand the courses,” 8th grader Julia Attenello explained.
All sporting events were represented by either team captains or seniors in order to advertise their teams to incoming freshmen.
Clubs such as Unified for Underprivileged Girls, BSA, Robotics, Student Council, and FBLA were present to showcase themselves.
“It was fun to see all the 8th graders learn more about the school, and I think a lot of them were excited to learn more about the club,” junior FBLA secretary Ananya Rajan. “FBLA is a club at the middle school too, so it was cool to see them want to do it at the high school level.”
Overall, the event provided an informative experience to South Windsor High School, offering students and their families a chance to learn about the opportunities and resources available as they look ahead to high school.
