Senior Power Forward and Center Tyler Pottinger is a stand out player on the SWHS boys varsity basketball team. Although he is not the loudest on the court, he still can make big plays and is a major impact to the team.
Last season, Pottinger was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side of the ball, grabbing rebounds and being one of the best shot blockers in the state.
In the playoff clinching win last year against Bristol Eastern, Pottinger led the team in scoring down the stretch, helping the ‘Cats secure victory and a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2017. The Bobcats went 8-13 and lost in the first round of states to Seymour.
Pottinger is optimistic to lead his team to a better year and he is determined to make it farther this year.
Pottinger started basketball when he was as young as 4 years old, and now he is getting ready to take on this year’s senior season.
“My dad, before he passed, it was his favorite sport,” Pottinger stated. He uses this as motivation to become the best version of himself and as someone who inspires him to go hard every game.
Pottinger is a major team player, making sure that not only himself but the people around him succeed together.
“He’s a dog, one of the most dominant players on our team and going to play a huge role this year,” teammate Ethan Burke said.
Pottinger who plays forward/center can do a lot with his skill set, he is always willing to put up shots and put in the extra work on his time off.
“He is a dog, one of the best slashers and rebounders on our team, gonna be a huge key to the team this year, ”teammate Jaden Bridgeforth commented about Pottinger and the upcoming season.
The Bobcat boys basketball team is looking for revenge after last season’s first round playoff exit. No better way than to come back with new coaches, the ‘Cats are hopeful for the future of their program.
