Every sports season has its share of highs and lows, but for the first time at South Windsor High School, athletes were called together for a Fall Sports Assembly to be able to reflect on their individual fall season and provide constructive feedback to the athletic advisors and coaches to implement for the next season.
On Tuesday, November 12th, 9th and 10th grade students who played a fall sport, were called down to the auditorium to complete a survey on their season, and on Wednesday, November 13th, 11th and 12th grade students were called down.
At the assembly, a Google form was given to students with 12 questions, giving the students a more concise format to express their opinions. In previous years, students were asked to complete a form of about 33 questions in their Bobcat Block. The survey is anonymous to ensure the athletes that there won’t be a name attached to their opinion.
“Hopefully this is a way for us to look and make improvements moving forward or at least give us an idea for areas we can work on to get better at,” Athletic Director, Mr. David Sytulek said.
Not every athlete’s experience is the same, and feedback may vary based on the grade, division, and sport of a given athlete.
Girl’s cross country runner and freshman Charvi Dixon-Islur was among the students filling out the survey.
“I didn’t find the survey helpful personally, but it could help improve the school sports program,” Dixon said.
The survey process allowed fall athletes to reflect on their season as a whole.
“It was really fun; my team was very supportive,” Dixon said regarding her freshman season.
The survey also encouraged athletes to keep training through participation in a winter sport to boost their skills and stay in shape for the next season.
“I’m doing indoor track to help me improve on cross country,” Dixon said when asked if she would be joining a sport over the winter season.
Sophomore and varsity girls soccer player Emery Forko completed this survey after a competitive season.
“I mean, I think during the season we didn’t get to share our ideas. So to be able to do it now was helpful,” Forko said.
The feedback from this survey will help to improve sports for the 2025 fall season. The survey is used to provide feedback to coaching staff about their season.
