On Wednesday, October 30th, the South Windsor girls swim team competed in the conference championships at Glastonbury High School. Four other teams in the conference, including Glastonbury, East Catholic, E.O. Smith and East Hartford, competed at the event, with South Windsor placing in 3rd out of 5 teams.
During warm-ups, the fire alarm went off, although this caused a delay the girls were able to continue warming up after about 20 minutes outside. The meet officially started around 4:45 p.m. with the 200 medley relay. The relay consisted of junior Celine Nguyen swimming Backstroke, junior Grace Zeng swimming Breaststroke, junior Alyssa Nguyen swimming butterfly and junior Audrey Zhang swimming freestyle.
Senior Siri Bandari, competed in the 50 freestyle, 200 free relay, and 100 freestyle.
“I think my events went well. I made a new PR and did better than I thought I would. I am very happy with the result of CCCs considering how hard we worked on each of our events. The team as a whole has improved a lot since the start of the season,” Bandari said.
Junior Emily Porter swam the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and the 200 free relay.
“CCCs is always a great experience, and I’m proud of how I swam. It was fun to be with the team one last time,” Porter said.
An important event of the night was the 500 free, which is also the longest event of the night. Junior Audrey Zhang swam in the fastest heat placing sixth overall with a sub-six minute 500.
Celine Nguyen competed in the fastest heat of the 100 backstroke, earning a time of 1:08, a time she has been working towards the whole season. She will swim backstroke in States due to her times from the past few meets.
Sarah Lambert swam the 50 freestyle, 200 free relay, 100 freestyle and 400 free relay. Lambert did exceptionally well in all of her events, but particularly well in the 50 and 100.
“CCC’s this year was something I’ll never forget. This is a one of a kind team that I am so happy to be part of. I am so proud of our team this year after a lot of hard work and dedication we saw amazing results. I am very excited to go to states with a few select girls and even more excited to see everyone else next season,” Lambert told The Prowl.
Six girls from the team will go onto states and compete in a couple weeks. However, for the rest of the team, this marks the end of the season.
