Foster Farm, located at 90 Foster Street in South Windsor, is a great destination for families looking to enjoy quality time together.
Established in 1790 as a dairy farm, Foster Farm has evolved to focus on community engagement and providing joy to children and adults alike.
One of the most popular attractions is the tractor hayride, which takes guests all over the farm to view pumpkins, mazes, and the animals they foster there.
The farm features a pumpkin patch where visitors can pick out and fill a wheelbarrow of pumpkins for $89.
The farm is also known for its huge, creative mazes, including in previous years, a UConn Husky maze, a first responder maze, and this year’s theme, a mermaid and pirate ship maze.
“The task for choosing the theme each year comes from what would be appealing, fun and maybe new learning,” Judy Foster, wife of Dwight Foster, son of the founder of Foster Farm, told The Prowl.
This year’s theme was created by Judy Foster and was inspired by her love of mermaids.
“Having three sons and then having the joy of seven grandchildren…4 being girls and 3 boys, I started when they were young, decorating one of the guest rooms in everything mermaids, including books, dolls, pictures and wall art. In the second bedroom, I decorated it with a pirate theme using pirate maps, lighthouse pictures, model ships, spy glasses, books about pirates,” Foster explained.
Her years as an elementary school teacher decorating her classroom with themes to go along with the curriculum, making it fun for the students, seamlessly translated over into her decorating in her own home for her grandchildren.
“Choosing this year’s theme just seemed like a natural, fun one that would appeal to many. Last year, the same thought went into the gnome theme,” Foster said. “Anyone who comes into our house knows I love gnomes every season.”
This family-owned business run by Dwight and Judy Foster along with Kelly and David Foster and their spouses, as corn maze partners, has been passed down for generations, and they hope to continue this legacy of fall fun for future generations.
Those who work there enjoy what they do and appreciate the mission of the farm.
“This job brings South Windsor together for a good time and really good food,” said former South Windsor High School student London King.
Foster Farm greets you as family when you walk in, as each member of the staff has a big smile on their face and the kids are children of all ages are filled with excitement going into the mazes.
The farm also features two alpacas and two goats as well as chickens and sheep.
Children take turns on the pedal kart track, climb on the playground, and enjoy the sandbox. A recently added corn pit lets younger children fill buckets and toys with corn. Another addition is the giant bounce pad, an inflatable trampoline for kids.
Foster Farm is the perfect solution for people looking for a fun day with their family. And, if you are craving apple cider donuts, fresh apple cider and apple fritters, they are available on the weekends from 11-5 from food truck vendors who come to the farm.
