The South Windsor Travel club is opening itself up to new student coaching volunteers. This gives coaches a chance to help their own players with the assistance of aspiring student coaches.
If you want to become a coach when you get older, this volunteering opportunity is a good way to get your foot in the door for coaching.
Additionally, young players get much better at the sport due to the help that student coaches can provide. If you’re a high school player who is volunteering, your knowledge of the game you play is invaluable to the up and coming players.
“This helps to build fundamental skills in soccer; it has allowed our players to grow in their confidence on the field,” travel coordinator, Melissa Ross said.
The coaches that are helped are always grateful for the extra aid to their team.
“They fill a gap in our coaching staff because none of us have experienced that position,” coach Mathew Siracusa explained.
It is obvious that teams improve when receiving extra help, the more coaches and insights the better.
According to The University of Chicago News, “We find that coaches do, in fact, matter—and suggestions that coaches are interchangeable, which has been the dominant view in the sports analytics community, are not true. In every sport we studied, we found that coaches impact variables that contribute to a higher winning percentage.”
Student coaches can also learn the art coaching during this process. The experienced coaches can help these students advance in their coaching careers through guidance and mentorship.
Players love these student coaches and want to try harder when they’re around.
“They inspire our players to work harder and strive for improvement every time they’re at practice,” coach Mathew Siracusa said.
Student coaches are invaluable to a sports community and this volunteer work helps to put them in the right path for coaching later on in life. Coaches and teams appreciate all the hard work that they put into learning and teaching the sport.
